What Parents Love the Most About our Childcare Photography

Childcare photography has come a long way past the single mugshot where you had no preview, prepaid envelopes, just “get-what-you-get” style packages. With photographers forever evolving what they offer based on popularity, parents especially love the new approach that we have taken at our studio.

At School Portrait Art we photograph all children at our early education and childcare centres with a portable studio backdrop. What parents love the most about our studio backdrop portraits over candid photography is that it doesn't matter what their child wears, they always look amazing in our photos.

With outdoor photography, parents often worry about what their child is wearing and whether it will clash with the environment. Pretty dresses and crisp whites didn’t really work in the natural outdoor kindy action portraits we were previously creating.

Most parents at our centres choose to dress their children in formal attire for portrait day.

With the studio backdrop, your child will look amazing in every photograph, no matter what they are wearing, casual or formal.

In 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic forced us to close our business temporarily. However, we used the time to perfect our craft and to come up with new and innovative ways to provide our clients with the best childcare photography experience possible.

As discussed, one of the most significant changes we made was to move from outdoor candid photography to our portable studio backdrop setup.

At the time this implementation to mitigate the workflow complications caused by covid closures. We knew we were going to have to fit a year's worth of sessions into two (school) terms.

We needed to compress our time at each service whilst still offering the same variety of 10-15 images per child.

We recongnised that time was lost in navigating the environment.

Between rapidly changing sunlight (usable backgrounds and shaded areas that work with one child often don’t work 35 minutes later), trying to work around other moving children in the yard, and outfit styling (some children in formals that just would not work in a sandpit vs others in causal who were dressed for action). Time spent evaluating for each child was creating delays that could easily be mitigated with a consistent photography station.

As soon as we implemented our backdrop system we noticed an increase in sales and positive feedback, parents loved the results so much that we never went back.

Parents cannot replicate a studio-styled image at home, the only place you can get this is by visiting a professional photographic studio.  Not all families have access to this for various reasons, finances, and time, and therefore this service is particularly special for busy parents. We bring the portable studio to their babes while they are at work, it doesn't get any easier for them than that. No wonder it's been such a hit!

The added bonus for the childcare management and educators is also phenomenal. We now require fewer days at the service to photograph all children, finish photography by lunch every time, and no longer have to try and control the outdoor areas where children are accustomed to freely moving around.

Now we just set up in one location until completion.

Our studio is designed to be compact, which means that we can set up in even the smallest of outdoor shaded spaces. This makes it easier for us to work in daycare centers and ensures that we can get the perfect shot every time.

One of the most important aspects of childcare photography is capturing your child's personality and emotions. At our studio, we focus on capturing your child's expressions.

That’s why we always have a photographer and a photographer’s assistant at every session.

We believe that every child is unique, and we want to showcase that in our photographs.

By focusing on your child's personality and emotions, creating a playful connection between the assistant and your child, our photographer can create a photo that truly captures the essence of your child.

We also take great care to ensure that our studio is a safe and comfortable environment for your child. We understand that some children may be hesitant or nervous about being in front of the camera, and we take great care to ensure that they feel comfortable and relaxed during their photoshoot.
